UPDATE: EKU Students React To Plans For Tobacco-Free Campus
Teachers, faculty, staff, students will no longer be able to smoke on campus.
Micheal Robinson works at a fast-food restaurant on campus and admits that cigarettes help him cope with the stress of the job.
"I smoke a cigarette with every break I got," said Micheal Robinson.
But his smoking days at EKU are numbered after a group of 30 students and teachers developed a new tobacco-free policy.
It was passed by the EKU Board of Regents and will replace the current smoke-free zones.
The ban goes beyond campus.
It will also apply to anyone driving or riding in a vehicle owned by the university.
And if your car’s on EKU property, you also can’t use tobacco products.
The school’s President Michael Benson says it’s the right and smart thing to do.
Though it will be a difficult adjustment, Robinson agreed with Benson.
"It might start me back on quitting. It might be beneficial," said Robinson.
