UPDATE: Dog accused in vicious attack found, quarantined

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A pit bull accused of attacking the former mayor of Nicholasville and killing his dog, has been found and quarantined, according to Jessamine County Animal Care and Control.

Investigators say with the help of Nicholasville Police, they were able to get information on the dog’s owner and locate the animal.

The name of the dog’s owner wasn’t immediately available and whether the owner will face charges in the case. More information is expected to be released on Saturday, according to officials.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office says John Martin was walking his dog, ‘Chelsea,’ on Cherry Brook Drive Thursday around 4:30 p.m.

The former mayor told investigators that a pit bull appeared out of nowhere and attacked him and his dog.

Martin’s dog died as a result of the attack, Martin and a neighbor, who pulled the pit bull off of him, both suffered bite wounds, according to investigators.

Martin says after the attack, a car pulled up, picked-up the pit bull and drove away.

The case remains under investigation.
