UPDATE: Deputy shot in Scott County identified
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy who was shot Tuesday night in Scott County during a confrontation between officers and a fugitive.
Sheriff Tony Hampton says the deputy is 28-year-old Jaime Morales.
Scott County sheriff’s deputies, along with Kentucky State Police and Georgetown Police, were helping federal agents find a fugitive from Florida.
The fugitive, 57-year-old Edward Reynolds, was located at a rest stop on Interstate 75 near exit 127 in Scott County around 10:15 p.m.
Gunfire was exchanged, according to state police.
Reynolds was killed and Morales was rushed to the University of Kentucky hospital where he underwent surgery.
At a briefing Wednesday afternoon, Hampton said Morales was in stable condition.
