UPDATE: Deputies say suspects admitted to shoplifting to pay bills

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Laurel County Sheriff’s office is releasing new information in a reported shoplifting investigation.

Deputies say a man and woman were arrested Monday at a Walmart store near Corbin.

Investigators say both suspects admitted they were stealing to pay bills.

The sheriff’s office says store security staff saw 51-year-old Earnest McIntyre use a knife to open merchandise before hiding it in his coat.

Deputies who were later called to Walmart say they saw McIntyre steal jewelry and other items.

Investigators say they found a large amount of merchandise on him, including 20-30 watches, markers, coloring books and sunglasses.

Deputies say McIntyre was under the influence at the time.

He reportedly told the sheriff’s office he planned to sell the stolen items to pay some bills.

Investigators say 20-year-old Tiffany Gray was also arrested after reportedly telling deputies she had several stolen items hidden in her clothes.
