UPDATE: Democrat Reggie Thomas Wins 13th District Special Election
Unofficial results released Tuesday night show Thomas won the race with about 54% of the vote.
Thomas will replace Democrat Kathy Stein, who resigned to become a judge.
The results show 7,510 voters cast ballots in the special election.
There were three other candidates vying for the seat.
Former Democrat-turned-Independent Richard Moloney took about 35% of the vote.
And former Democrat-turned-Republican Michael Johnson came in with about 11% of the vote.
A write-in candidate, Michael Graetz, received two votes.
The 13th State Senate District is more than 2:1 Democratic.
Thomas is a Lexington attorney and a Professor at Kentucky State University.
The results are expected to be certified December 17th by the State Board of Elections.
