UPDATE: Charges upgraded to murder in officer’s death

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- State police say the charges in the shooting of a Richmond police officer were upgraded this afternoon to murder.

Investigators say 34-year-old Raleigh Sizemore of Richmond is now charged with Murder of a Police Officer, two counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree, and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.

State police say Sizemore shot Officer Daniel Ellis Wednesday during a robbery investigation at a Richmond apartment complex. Investigators say Ellis died early this morning at U.K. Hospital in Lexington.

State police say two other suspects in the apartment, Gregory Ratliff and Rita Creech, are also facing charges in the shooting.

Ellis leaves behind his wife and son.

Police say visitation will be held this Tuesday, November 10, from 2:00p.m.- 8:00p.m. at E.K.U. Alumni Coliseum in Richmond. They say his funeral will be on Wednesday at the coliseum, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation.
