UPDATE: Accused purse snatcher faces more than a dozen charges

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man arrested Monday in connection to recent purse snatches now faces more than a dozen charges, according to Lexington Police.

Investigators say 31-year Adam Wade is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, 2-counts of Robbery 2nd Degree, 8-counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and additional traffic-related charges.

Court documents say two of those theft charges involve stealing from open registers at Zaxby’s restaurants in Lexington.

Police say Wade may have been involved in seven recent robberies, including five over Mother’s Day weekend.  Documents say Wade confessed to one of the purse snatchings, but it’s not clear at this point that he was involved in several of the thefts that have recently occurred.

Investigators say in one incident Saturday, a woman in Hamburg who had her purse forcefully taken from her tried to get through the thief’s car window to get it back, but she fell and was run over by the car, breaking her leg.

On Monday, May 15, Wade was arrested after reportedly stealing someone’s purse at a Walmart on New Circle Road in Lexington, according to police.

Investigators say they tried to pull Wade over after the reported theft, but he was able to elude police as he drove away. Police say Wade was picked up later by undercover officers near Eastland Drive and New Circle Road.

He was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
