UPDATE: Suspect arrested in double fatal shooting at Louisville apartment

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left two people dead in Louisville.

Media outlets report Louisville Metro Police say 23-year-old Eric Lee Anthony was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of murder, assault, wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

The shooting happened Tuesday night inside an apartment.

Police say Anthony entered the home armed with a gun and fired several shots. Four people were shot, including two fatally.

Deputy coroner Jim Wesley says 24-year-old Monte Compton and 29-year-old Donte Jefferson were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other victims, a man and a woman, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

It’s unclear if Anthony has an attorney.

The Jefferson County coroner’s office has released the names of two men who died in a shooting at a Louisville apartment.

The men were identified as 24-year-old Monte Compton and 29-year-old Donte Jefferson. The coroner’s office said in a news release Wednesday that both men were pronounced dead at the scene of single gunshot wounds.

Louisville police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told media outlets that two other people were injured in the shooting, which happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday near Churchill Downs. The man and woman were taken to a hospital, but their conditions haven’t been released.

Smiley said officers think the woman lived in the apartment.

She said the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
