Unveiling at Annual Secretariat Festival

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two horse racing legends will be honored in Lexington with a permanent statue, unveiled Saturday at the Annual Secretariat Festival at Keeneland.

The bronze statue features Secretariat and jockey, Ron Turcotte.

It was shipped to Lexington all the way from Oklahoma.

Families got to take pictures with the larger than life statue, it’s more than 11-feet tall and weighs around 3800 pounds.

Jocelyn Russell was one of the artist’s behind this new monument.

“I would love to sculpt a life-size thoroughbred and within a few months the phone rings, “how about secretariat at life and a half,” that’ll do,” Russell said.

The statue will be moved to its permanent spot in the middle of the roundabout at Old Frankfort Pike and Alexandria Drive Monday, October 14th.
