University of the Cumberlands splitting from Kentucky Baptist Convention
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of the Cumberlands is splitting from the Kentucky Baptist Convention, according to a report in the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The newspaper reports the issue is the agreement between the school and KBC that allows KBC to choose all the trustees for the university’s governing board.
The school’s president told the newspaper he wants to put alumni on the board who are from other Christian denominations, which isn’t allowed under the current agreement with KBC.
The split from KBC will cost the school financially, according to the Herald-Leader. The university hopes to make up for the loss by increasing the number of online classes and by cutting tuition by 60-percent to attract more students, according to the report.
