Unexpected keeper of makeshift memorial

LAWRENCBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – There are reminders of Sydney Peffer’s life all across Lawrenceburg, encouraging everyone who sees the signs not to drink and drive.

Noal Cotton lives a stone’s throw from the spot where tragedy took the life of Sydney Peffer. Not long after the crash, distraught family and friends began stopping by the crash site. That’s where a local preacher stepped in.

“I’d just come over and minister to them and pray with them and let them know that I knew they needed some time to mourn,” said Cotton

When a friend suggested planting some rose bushes and a cross, Cotton was on board.

The memorial has solar powered lights to shine on the cross. Cotton occasionally pulls weeds and makes sure Peffer’s initials are organized.

“All you can do is love on them, just be there to support them and just kind of pray with them and pray for them,” said Cotton.
