Unemployment falls in 73 counties

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky’s unemployment rates for July 2025 show mixed results, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

Unemployment fell in 73 counties, rose in 35, and remained the same in 12.

Woodford County recorded the state’s lowest jobless rate at 4.5%, followed closely by Fayette, Oldham, and Scott counties at 4.7%.

On the other end, Martin County reported the highest unemployment rate at 10.8%, with Wolfe, Lewis, and Magoffin counties also among the highest statewide.

Overall, Kentucky’s unadjusted jobless rate for July stood at 5.6%, compared to the national rate of 4.6%. Experts note these figures are not seasonally adjusted — meaning weather, holidays, and school schedules can affect the numbers.
