Fire forces relocation of 110 Rockcastle Co. inmates
MT. VERNON, Ky. (WTVQ) – More than 100 inmates were moved Wednesday morning in Rockcastle County following a fire at the jail.
The Brodhead Fire Department says the fire broke out in the Rockcastle County Detention Center just after 3 a.m.
Some jail employees were taken to the hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation, according to firefighters.
The fire also forced the relocation of 110 inmates. They were taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
The Brodhead Fire Department says the fire may or may not have started in an inmate’s cell.
The jail has extensive smoke and water damage.
The courthouse nearby also sustained water damage, according to fire crews.
Fire investigators are on the scene, trying to determine a cause.
