UK Rifle wins 2018 NCAA Championship
CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the second time in program history the Kentucky Wildcats are NCAA Champions in the sport of rifle.
The Wildcats won the second national championship in program history, and first since 2011. Head coach Harry Mullins led UK to both wins.
Kentucky used a three-point season best score, 4,717, to win by nine points over five-time defending NCAA Champion West Virginia.
UK led WVU 2,345-2,327 after yesterday’s smallbore, and held off the Mountaineers today in air rifle. WVU shot a 2,381 compared with the Wildcats’ 2,372.
Henrik Larson led the way for Kentucky in air rifle with a clutch 596, fourth best in the field. Hailee Sigmon shot 595, Hanna Carr shot 593, Cathryn Papasodora posted a 588, and Billy Azzinaro produced a 587.
Larsen won the individual air rifle final with a 249.4, including 52 center shots. He shot 596 in the individual. He became Wildcat to win the individual air rifle NCAA title since Connor Davis in 2014.
