UK Police Department tests UK Alert emergency system across campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The University of Kentucky Police Department conducted a scheduled test of its UK Alert emergency notification system Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

The Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness carried out the drill to ensure the system is functioning properly. The test activated text messages, phone calls, emails, digital signage, and outdoor speakers across campus.

The message sent to the community read, “This is a test of the UK Alert system.”

Officials say the alert system will soon be integrated with the SafeZone app to make emergency communications faster and more reliable. Faculty and staff are reminded they must download and register on the SafeZone app by November 1 to continue receiving phone and text alerts.
