UK not renewing Lamar Thomas’ contract

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lamar Thomas will no longer be at Kentucky.

Thomas’ contract, worth $300,000 this season, is up in June.

“I appreciate the contributions Lamar made to our program during the last two years,” UK coach Mark Stoops said in a news release. “We wish him the best in the future.”

The former Miami star wide receiver and six-year NFL veteran was on UofL staff under bobby Petrino before joining UK.  Thomas had been at Western Kentucky with Petrino prior to his stint in Louisville.

Inconsistency has plagued the position throughout Stoops’ tenure.

The wide receiver position now open makes it two current spots to fill for Stoops.  The newly added 10th assistant coaching job will be slated for a defensive hire.
