UK fan shot in the face before South Carolina game
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WTVQ) – A University of Kentucky fan is in critical condition after being shot in the face just before a game in Columbia, Carolina Saturday.
Police say that eight people were shot during a shootout near a club.
One of the victims is Kentucky native, 52-year-old Denise Massey.
Her boyfriend Jimmy Brannon was with her and told ABC 36 — he heard popping sounds and people saying get on the ground as they were walking to their car.
Brannon said it wasn’t until he saw his girlfriend on the ground and unconscious, he knew she had been hit.
“I wasn’t thinking anything like that could even happen. I duck behind my car, she went down and had been struck. There was a lot of blood. I can’t get that picture out my mind,” said Brannon.
Doctors say a stray bullet hit Massey in the cheek, missed her spinal cord then exited the back of her head.
According to Brannon –she has undergone several tests.
Depending on the outcome of those tests –she will be moved to University of Kentucky Hospital to continue her recovery.
According to Columbia Police — four suspects have been arrested in connection to that shooting.
