UK employee missing in Alaska after hike near Mount Roberts Tramway

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A University of Kentucky employee has been reported missing while on a cruise in Alaska, according to authorities.

62-year-old Marites Buenafe was last seen Tuesday, July 1, in Juneau. Family members say she texted them that morning saying she was hiking near the Mount Roberts Tramway, but she never returned to her cruise ship, the Norwegian Bliss.

Juneau Police say security footage captured Buenafe at the top of the tramway around 7:30 a.m. that day, but there’s been no sign of her since.

Buenafe is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 118 pounds, with brown eyes.
