U of L students re-enacting 1950s sedition case
LOUISVILE, Ky. (AP) — University of Louisville theater arts students are re-enacting a Kentucky sedition trial Friday at the School of Law.
The performance — "Moving Forward, Living Backward or Just Sitting Still?" — is free and open to the public at 7 p.m. EDT at the law school’s Allen Courtroom.
U of L says assistant theater arts professor and play director Amy Steiger and the student cast developed the work from conversations with community members, transcripts from Carl Braden’s sedition trial and Anne Braden’s book, "The Wall Between."
The event is in connection with the Louisville Free Public Library exhibit about the 1954 bombing of a home the Bradens purchased on behalf of an African-American family in a white neighborhood. The Bradens were accused of staging the house purchase and bombing as part of a communist plot and charged with sedition.
