Two students killed in Houston bus crash

HOUSTON (AP) – The families of two Houston students who died of injuries suffered in a school bus crash are identifying the girls.

Family members say 17-year-old Mariya Alyss Johnson died in the crash, and 14-year-old Janecia Chatman died later at a Houston hospital. School officials identified the injured students as 17-year-old siblings Brandon and Lakeshia Williams.

Police spokesman Victor Senties said investigators believe that a car struck the front driver’s side of the bus after swerving to avoid another vehicle during morning rush-hour traffic.

The bus then lurched to the right, struck a guardrail and toppled to the road below.

The accident remains under investigation.
