Two new players ink deals with Lexington Sporting Club

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- New manager Terry Boss landed his first two signings with Lexington Sporting Club on Tuesday.

An Owensboro, Kentucky native, Stauffer most recently played for El Paso Locomotive in the United Soccer League Championship last season.

The 29-year-old was a main stay in El Paso’s lineup in 2024 and had a 65 percent tackle success rate.

He comes home to play professionally in the Commonwealth for the first time in his career.

“I love this state and being able to join Lexington SC in their inaugural season of USL Championship soccer is a dream come true,” said Stauffer.

The former Creighton men’s soccer player fits the profile of what Boss needs from defenders to play his aggressive style of soccer.

“Lucas is an attacking full back that provides excellent service,” said Boss.

Goldthorp comes to Kentucky by way of Canada, where he suited up for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ MLS NEXT Pro team last season.

With the development squad, he played in 22 matches scoring eight goals and tallying five assists in his first season out of college. Goldthorp also led the team in key passes with 47, an impressive mark for a midfielder.

“Eliot is a smart and technical player that can score and play the final pass,” said Boss.

The 23-year-old Leeds, England native played college soccer at Hofstra and Old Dominion.

In 2023 with the Pride, Goldthorp received All-American honors after leading the NCAA in goals (20), points (45) and becoming the Division One Player of the Year.

“As a young player striving for a successful career it’s exciting to be part of something just getting off the ground. The guys here are detail oriented, driven and hungry for success. That suits me perfectly,” said Goldthorp.
