Two Lexington schools go on heightened alert after reports of shots fired
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two Lexington elementary schools went on heightened alert Thursday morning after reports of shots being fired near the schools.
Lexington police say got the call at about 7:25 a.m. They say they surrounded both Lansdowne Elementary and Mill Creek Elementary and searched the area but found no evidence of shots being fired.
Lisa Deffendall with Fayette County Public Schools says both schools were placed on heightened alert. Under a heightened alert, students are kept inside the school and classes continue as normal.
Police have cleared the scene but say there will be extra patrols are both schools for the rest of the day.
