Two Jessamine County students quarantined following measles exposure
JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Two students in Jessamine County have been placed under quarantine following a measles exposure, according to the school district.
Jessamine County Public Schools confirmed to ABC36 that the Jessamine County Health Department asked the district to quarantine two students due to a measles exposure in their household. District officials say the students are siblings.
The district did not release additional details, including which schools the students attend, citing privacy concerns.
ABC36 has also reached out to the Jessamine County Health Department for further information but has not yet received a response.
The quarantine follows a confirmed measles case in central Kentucky earlier this month. Health officials have said measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air, with symptoms that can include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash.
State health officials continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been exposed to measles or who is unsure of their vaccination status to contact a healthcare provider.
