Two finalists for Fayette Schools superintendent to be interviewed next week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Members of the Fayette County Board of Education are planning to interview at least two finalists for the district’s highest leadership post next week.

Superintendent candidates will each spend a day and a half in Lexington, with the first interview beginning with a tour of area schools in the afternoon on Tuesday June 23, 2015, and continuing on June 24, 2015, with a full day of meeting with small groups of area residents representing students, employees, families and community members.

The second candidate will tour county schools on the afternoon of June 25, 2015, and have a full day of focus group interviews on Friday, June 26, 2015.

Each of the eight panels will then provide feedback to the school board about their impressions of each candidate.  Names are not yet being released because McNamara Search is still conducting background checks, but the district wanted to be sure everyone makes plans to participate in this very important next step for the school district.

The first candidate will arrive in Lexington on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. The visit will begin with a tour of the schools in the afternoon and will host a reception open to EVERYONE who is interested to come meet and greet the candidate and his or her spouse. The reception will be held at William Wells Brown Elementary School, 555 E. Fifth Street, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2015, the candidate will be interviewed throughout the day by eight different focus groups representing students, employees, families and community members.  Each of the eight interview panels will then provide feedback to the school board about their impressions of each candidate.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, the community is encouraged and invited to attend a public forum to be held in Norsworthy Auditorium at the school district office. That will also air live and be replayed on Channel 13.  Both programs will also be available on demand at www.fcps.net.

The schedule will repeat with the second candidate beginning his or her tour of Fayette County schools on the afternoon of Thursday, June 25, 2015, followed by a community reception that evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at William Wells Brown Elementary School. The full day of focus group interviews, press conference and public forum at 6 p.m. will be on Friday, June 26, 2015.

The community is also invited to submit questions for the public forum and send the school board feedback on the candidates. Please visit www.fcps.net/letstalk to suggest questions and tell the school board what you think.

“We need the participation and involvement of our entire community to help to select the very best superintendent to join our team,” said Fayette County Board of Education Chair John Price. “Working together, we can ensure that every student receives a world class education.”
