Two-county car chase ends with officer-involved shooting

RAVEN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A two-county vehicle pursuit resulted in the shooting of a Knott County man, by police, on Monday afternoon, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP says a trooper with KSP Post 13 saw a vehicle driving in a reckless manner on Highway 15 in Letcher County, and attempted to make a traffic stop.

They say the driver of the truck didn’t stop when the Trooper activated his emergency equipment, and continued to travel north on KY 15 into Knott County.

Personnel with KSP CVE, Knott County Sheriff’s Department and Pippa Passes Police Department joined in support, as the pursuit continued for several miles, according to KSP.

They say the truck drove into the Raven community, where it turned onto an old mining haul road, traveling a minimal distance before finally stopping.

Officers say they immediately encountered the driver, whose initial actions prompted them to shoot him.

According to KSP, the driver was given first aid at the scene, then was later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

None of the police officers involved were injured.

KSP is still investigating.
