Turkey detains 10 foreigners over suspected ties to Gulen

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey’s deputy prime minister says 10 foreign nationals have been detained over suspected ties to a U.S.-based cleric whom Turkey accuses of masterminding the July 15 failed coup.

Numan Kurtulmus said Monday at least four of them had been formally arrested pending a trial. He didn’t provide details on their nationalities.

Kurtulmus said those detained included one person who entered Turkey illegally from Syria on Saturday.

The cleric, Fethullah Gulen, has denied any involvement in the failed coup attempt. He lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania.
