Tubby Smith talks golf and the Wildcats at the ISCO Championship Pro Am
Former UK men's basketball Head Coach says he is excited to watch Mark Pope's team
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Tubby Smith’s golf game may not be on par with his ability as a coach.
“It’s fun to get out here and be back in Kentucky, but my golf game sucks,” said Smith, who won the 1998 National Championship with the Wildcats.
Smith was in good spirits as he came off of the golf course with his Pro Am group with his final shots fresh in his mind.
“My second shot there was within ten or fifteen feet, but I let myself down on the put. That’s the way it is in sports though,” said Smith, with no word on his final score.
As for Tubby’s love for Kentucky men’s hoops; it hasn’t faded. Smith says that he wants to come back to Lexington and watch a practice in the Joe Craft Center where he knows the new head coach is building something great.
“His team have always been good shooting teams so we’ll see them put up a lot of threes. I wish they kept someone like a Reed Sheppard,” said Smith. “That’s what Mark Pope’s team does. Offensively minded, very aggressive and they play great defense. He’s just an outstanding coach.”
