TSA to begin charging fee for travelers without Real ID starting next month
(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Transportation Security Administration will begin enforcing a new policy next month for travelers who do not have a Real ID.
Starting Feb. 1, passengers without a Real ID will be required to pay a $45 fee to use an alternative identity verification system known as TSA Confirm ID.
The TSA says the option will allow travelers without a Real ID to complete additional identity verification in order to pass through airport security.
According to the agency, the alternative ID option can be used for a 10-day travel period.
TSA officials say additional steps, requirements and information about TSA Confirm ID are available on the agency’s website.
