Troopers ride to benefit summer camp, promote motorcycle safety

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- More than 100 riders roared into a Lexington motorcycle shop Saturday.

Their minds were focused on safety. It’s been 8-years since Kentucky State Police started its Motorcycle Safety Awareness Day and Run for Trooper Island.

600-700 kids from all across the Commonwealth go to Trooper Island each summer. Proceeds from Safety Awareness Day benefit the camp.

Beyond money raised, troopers say is awareness for safety while around motorcycles on the roadways.

"We also want to encourage all the motorists on Kentucky highways to watch and be safe around not only other motorists but especially around motorcycles. They’re smaller, they’re easier to lost on the roadway but we need to pay special attention for them," said Trooper Kendra Wilson.
