Troopers: Fight Leads To Fatal Shooting On Trail Ride

An argument between two Floyd County men turned deadly at the Knott County Trail Ride early Sunday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers in Hazard said they received a call after midnight Sunday that a man had been shot while attending the Trail Ride event.

Troopers said two men, 19-year-old Zachary Murphy of Langley and 21-year-old Miles Hamilton of Wayland had been fighting. After being separated they said Miles Hamilton shot Zachary Murphy once, fatally wounding him.

Murphy was pronounced deceased at the scene by Knott County Coroner Jeff Blair. Troopers said Hamilton initially fled on foot, but returned to the scene several hours later and turned himself in without incident.

Miles Hamilton was charged with one count of Murder, and was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
