Trish Stratus speaks with ABC 36 ahead of Lexington Comic Con

WWE Superstar, Hall of Famer set to appear on Saturday and Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — WWE Superstar and Hall of Famer Trish Stratus will appear at Lexington Comic and Toy Con this weekend to hold a special meet-and-greet with fans.

“I’m celebrating my 25th anniversary [in WWE],” says Stratus, speaking exclusively with ABC 36 ahead of the event. “To still have the same followers and some of their children is pretty special, right? You may be a fan, your daughter may be a fan. That’s amazing to me, how generational the impact has been.”

Stratus’ visit to Lexington comes after recent appearances at premium live events — or “PLEs” — such as the Royal Rumble last month and Elimination Chamber two weeks ago in her hometown of Toronto.

“I performed for the first time live in front of my children, which was very special because when I was wrestling, they weren’t born,” says Stratus.

WWE’s surge in popularity since the end of the pandemic has led to record-breaking attendance numbers and a string of sold-out events all over the globe.

“We used to call them closet wrestling fans, but now we realize they’re out, right?” says Stratus of the recent boom in professional wrestling’s popularity. “Everyone’s loud and proud to be a wrestling fan these days.”

As a trailblazer for women in a male-dominated industry, Stratus looks forward to events like Lexington Comic and Toy Con to connect with fans — whether it be men, women or children — from different generations.

“You would see autograph signings that would go from purely men, to now we have females, and then you’d have the younger girls and you’d have people like, I want to be you when I grow up” says Stratus, discussing meet-and-greet events over the years. “It wasn’t that [those younger girls] wanted to be a wrestler, necessarily. They wanted to be strong, female, you know, maybe a female in a male-dominated world, making it.”

Stratus is set to appear at Lexington Comic and Toy Con on both Saturday and Sunday. To purchase tickets for a photo op, or for more information, click here.
