Triple Crown Cat Fanciers Show-Event Details

Lyssa: hey guys, welcome back. I am here with the gang from Triple Crown Cat Fanciers Show, and we have a Classic Brown Tabby here. Earlier we had the Persian, right?
Diane: right.
Ashley: mm-hmm (affirmative).
Lyssa: and this is Classic Brown Tabby, beautiful cat, beautiful. And his name is Billy Bob, you gotta love it, right? Okay, ladies. First of all, we’re talking about many different breeds of cats that are going to be at the show. Describe the different breeds that are going to be there, how many do you think are going to be there, different breeds?
Diane: we currently have 35 breeds that are accepted in CFA, which is the Cat Fanciers’ Association. We have the oldest one, oldest breed is the Persians, like I said earlier. We’re going to be talking later about the newest breed that has been accepted, and that’s the Bengal. And then in between we have some really luscious kitty cats to show you.
Lyssa: really? I can’t wait. Now let’s talk about too, what exactly can people expect when they go to the show? I can’t even imagine how you get all of these cats together to be able to do the show, and work together like that. How does that work?
Diane: well, it actually works fairly easily and once you see it, it’s not at all like a dog show. Everybody says, “Oh, is it like a dog show?” no, it’s not anything like a dog show. The cats will have an area where they’re going to be sitting and waiting for the judging. We have six wings of judges on Saturday, four on Sunday, that are all be judging at the same time. And we break it down and each judge is their own show.
Lyssa: okay.
Diane: they actually have their own show and then the judges handle the cats and then they decide what the best cats are.
Lyssa: all right. And you also have the new category for household cats too, right?
Diane: it’s actually not a new category.
Lyssa: okay.
Diane: people have shown their household pets, which are exactly what it says, they’re pets at home, without a pedigree, without anything. They’ve been doing it for years, but now CFA is officially sanctioning wins and there’s awards that they get now. And they have a yearly award, so we have the best household pet in the world.
Lyssa: wow. Okay, how in the world do you get the cats to do the agility course? You had mentioned there’s an agility course, how in the world do you get them to do that?
Diane: some of us do it better than others.
Lyssa: yeah, I bet.
Diane: an agility course is totally different and it doesn’t have anything to do with those judges. They literally go through what you would think of as an agility course, they jump through hoops, they go under bars, they climb ladders. They do things that my cat would never do because I could never get it to do agility. But I’m telling you, and we have national wining agility cats and they will be there and you’ll see them competing.
Lyssa: well, I can not wait to see those. This is going to be so much fun. And we’ve got more, coming back after the break, but this is so much fun. This is a triple crown cat fanciers show, you don’t want to miss it this weekend. But we’re going to be back after this break.
