Trial begins for two men charged in Crystal Rogers case in Warren County
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Opening statements are expected Wednesday in the high-profile trial of two men charged in connection with the 2015 disappearance and presumed death of Bardstown mother Crystal Rogers.
Brooks Houck, who was Rogers’ boyfriend at the time of her disappearance, is charged with murder. Joseph Lawson is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and evidence tampering. The two are standing trial together in a Warren County courtroom.
The jury was seated Tuesday and is expected to hear opening arguments Wednesday.
According to ABC affiliate WHAS 11, the special prosecutor told potential jurors during selection that the case will rely heavily on circumstantial evidence. Rogers, a mother of five, was reported missing in 2015. Her body has never been found.
The case has gained national attention for years and led to multiple indictments. Last month, Joseph Lawson’s father, Steve Lawson, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in connection to the case. He is scheduled to be sentenced August 6.
