Trial begins for Sexton
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The trial for a man accused of sexually assaulting a coworker began on Tuesday.
Clyde Sexton is charged with sexual abuse and tampering with evidence, Lexington Police saying he had taken advantage of Melissa Kline- Smyly after she passed out behind a strip club on Winchester Road in 2013.
According to Kristen Ruhl, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy, Kline- Smyly had died from a heroin and Hydrocodone overdose. No trauma or visual cues anywhere on the woman’s body, Ruhl said, and though there was a slight redness to the vagina, no signs of sexual abuse.
The woman’s mother, Edwinna Robertson, said her daughter had been dealing with drug addiction for years.
A d.j. from the club, and the d.j.’s girlfriend took the stand today, with officials questioning them about why there was a delay in calling 911 for Kline- Smyly. Authorities were unable to find a definite cause.
Court is currently adjourned, and authorities say it will resume at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
