Treatment options available if battling alcohol or drug addiction

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Governor Andy Beshear releasing the state’s 2023 Drug Overdose Fatality Report last week which shows a decline in drug overdose deaths in Kentucky.
The governor highlighting the progress made while mourning the lives lost.
Beshear also highlighting the amount of drug and alcohol treatment beds in the state.

“Kentucky leads the country in residential drug and alcohol treatment beds per capita,” said Beshear in a Team Kentucky Update on June 6th.

At the beginning of the year, those in the administration launched the Innovative Recovery Ready Programs, which various counties are participating in.

The governor adding that participating counties have helped about 750,000 Kentuckians.

“We have groups four days a week, people are in the building those four days for 12 hours for groups, throughout the week. We also offer individual therapy for those needing help, with trauma, we take trauma and mental health very seriously here as well. We feel that mental health and trauma go hand in hand with addiction and recovery,” says Hacky Kantar, with business development for Roaring Brook Recovery Center.

Kantar with the center most people are seeking help for alcohol addiction, despite the opioid epidemic.
He says many take part in poly use, meaning it can be a variety of drugs or alcohol and drugs.

“We’re very 12 step based oriented here. We believe in abstinence. We do have medically assisted treatment, but we primarily focus on the 12 steps,” said Kantar.

Roaring Brook also offers sober living.
Kantar says not every patient will respond the same way to treatment.
He says for those debating, they should look at their options first to see what type of treatment might be best for them whether its inpatient, outpatient or sober living.

“Being in an inpatient facility is a higher step than us, and that gives you that first 30 days, whatever may be needed to get sober to get you away from the drugs, and then being able to start integrating back into society with that accountability is really where our Sober Living hits,” he adds.

Kantar also cautions to make sure the facility you’re looking into is also accredited. He says he believes one of the factors in the downward trend is education.
