Transylvania University’s president to step down this summer
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Transylvania University says its president will be leaving his post this summer.
The university announced Monday Seamus Carey will step down after serving five years as president.
“Serving this community as your president has been an honor and a privilege. I am grateful for all of the support I received and for all of the friendships we developed,” Carey said in a press release.
Carey has not announced what his next position will be but an announcement is expected later this week.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, William T. Young Jr., says an interim president will be selected for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The university says, following the appointment of an interim president, the Board of Trustees will begin a national search for a permanent successor.
