Transylvania senior wins renowned Cralle fellowship
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Transylvania University senior, Sydney LaRue, was given the competitive Cralle Foundation/Joan Cralle Day fellowship from the University of Kentucky. She received the $15,000 award to attend the UK College of Law beginning this fall.
This is the seventh time in the past 10 years a Transylvania student has won this award. Nominations were available to students from 18 private colleges around the state.
LaRue, a Louisville native, aspires to focus on criminal law and eventually become a public defender.
“I’m really excited,” shared LaRue when discussing the fellowship. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. It’s a big honor.”
LaRue has taken on many leadership roles throughout her time at Transylvania. As president of the Transylvania Environmental Action League, she has helped promote sustainable activities both on and off campus. Other involvement has included serving as vice president of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society chapter and participating in the Transylvania Catholic Organization.
She has majored in history and minored in French and anthropology.
“I became really interested in American history while I was here,” LaRue said. She has been especially intrigued with the history of legislation in the U.S. and reading about historical figures, especially the accounts of women and their journeys through law school.
LaRue was nominated for the 2021 Cralle fellowship by a committee made up of Transylvania faculty. Read more about this award for professional or graduate school studies at UK.
