Transportation Cabinet accepting entries for art contest

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says it is accepting student entries for its 2016 Adopt-a-Highway art contest.

A statement from the agency says the deadline for entries to be postmarked is Oct. 31.

The annual contest is held to increase public awareness about litter, to change attitudes and behaviors about littering and to educate Kentuckians about the Adopt-a-Highway program.

The contest is divided in to four age groups, ranging from 5 to 18. First- through third-place winners of each division will receive gift cards as well as have their work featured in the Adopt-a-Highway calendar.

Last year’s contest garnered about 1,400 entries.
