Transfer portal opens with movement at quarterback for Kentucky football

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The college football transfer portal opened Monday and will remain open through Jan. 16, prompting early movement at quarterback for Kentucky.

Wildcats quarterback Cutter Boley entered the portal as new head coach Will Stein is expected to pursue an experienced signal-caller. Rather than compete for a backup role in Lexington, Boley opted to explore other opportunities. According to On3 Sports, Arizona State has emerged as the early front-runner for Boley after Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt also entered the portal.

Kentucky, meanwhile, has shown interest in Leavitt, who began his career at Michigan State before transferring to Arizona State. Leavitt helped lead the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff in 2024. In 2025, the redshirt sophomore appeared in seven games before undergoing season-ending foot surgery Oct. 31. He completed 60.7% of his passes for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, and added 306 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Leavitt has two years of eligibility remaining.
