Trainer Kenny McPeek looking to win his first Kentucky Derby
Two horses trained by McPeak running in Louisville this week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Trainer Kenny McPeek has two horses racing at Churchill Downs this week, Mystik Dan in the 150th Kentucky Derby and Thorpedo Anna in the Kentucky Oaks.
McPeak, who has never won on the first Saturday in May, is content with how his horses have performed this year.
“Fingers crossed that it all falls in line,” said McPeak. “We’ve been around the bulls eye over the years.”
The Lexington raised trainer has won over 250 Stakes and over 100 Graded Stakes according to his website.
But, he has never won the Derby or the Oaks and this week he has a chance to win both.
“It’s not easy. It’s not supposed to be,” said McPeek. “I’ve done it at Keeneland. I’ve won the Bluegrass and the Ashland. I think I’ve done that twice. It’s exciting. I’ve got a lot of really great people who are working for me right now. This is what you play for; to get to the highest level. This is where you want to be.”
Mystik Dan’s odds to win the Kentucky Derby are 20-1. As for McPeek’s Kentucky Oaks hopeful, Thorpedo Anna is sitting at 5-1.
