Storms damage Lexington homes and shut down Leestown Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say Leestown Road between Masterson Station Drive and Yarnallton Pike remains closed after trees and power lines fell early Wednesday morning.

The road could be closed until midnight for repairs of downed poles and power lines, according to police.

Drivers are advised to consider alternate routes through the area.

Strong winds also damaged homes in a subdivision on Winding Oak Trail just outside of Masterson Station.

Siding was ripped off homes, fences bent, and debris scattered in the street and even in the trees. No injuries have been reported from this location.

Damage was also reported at Blackburn, the minimum-security prison in Lexington.

Crews from The National Weather Service out of Louisville have been out since early this afternoon assessing storm damage. They have not issued any official reports at this time.

According to the Lexington Police Department, officers have responded to  6 injury collisions, 10 non-injury collisions, 5 motorist assists, and 27 traffic hazards since midnight.
