Town hall focuses on same sex marriage

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A couple who is suing the state for the right to marry spoke at a town hall in Lexington on Tuesday.

The Campaign of Southern Equality and Freedom to Marry hosted the town hall at Carnegie Center.  The event was held as the U.S. Supreme Court gets ready to hear arguments about the ban that still exists in Kentucky and a few nearby states.

Greg Bourke, a plaintiff in a same-sex marriage lawsuit against Kentucky, spoke at the town hall, saying, "Kentucky really needs to step back and look at our family and look at the other families, the other plaintiffs that are here today. We’re so grateful for them, who are in the same case as us. Those who have been married, those who want to get married. We’re all families, and the state of Kentucky needs to recognize that."

Kentucky is one of just 13 states still banning same sex marriage.
