Tornado survivors now brace for more severe storms

Residents still reeling from Friday’s destruction prepare for another round of potential dangerous weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Some Kentuckians are facing a brutal double threat: the devastation from Friday’s tornado—and the possibility of another storm on the horizon.

In hard-hit neighborhoods, the wreckage is still fresh. Homes are shattered, lives are upended, and now communities are bracing for more potential severe weather.

Jay Sagoo and Linda Jones say they’re lucky to be alive. “And if Shahana our daughter didn’t wake us up it would be very bad, because the whole portion of the brick wall fell on my bed, and I can’t even find my mattress where I was,” said Sagoo.

“And I was in the back bedroom, the wall is completely gone from there,” Jones added.

They say they had just seconds to take cover after waking up. They huddled in a safe spot—now the only part of their home left untouched.

“I mean there’s no way, we have to even write a story, we can’t imagine we survived, scratch-less. It’s God, man,” Sagoo said.

Now, as emergency crews continue cleanup efforts, Jay and Linda are preparing to leave the area with another storm possibly moving in. They’re urging others to take warnings seriously.

“The first sign you get is when you hear your windows busted, all your windows busted at the same time,” Sagoo recalled.

“And then you’re falling off and you feel all the debris coming from the insulation and stuff,” Jones said. “When there is a warning, please take it seriously, it’s very important.”

On Sunday, far fewer people could be seen outside cleaning up debris. Many say they plan to leave the area before the next potential wave of storms hits.
