Tonie Morgan sets Kentucky single-season assist record in win over Texas A&M

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – No. 18 Kentucky got out to a fast start against the aggies, taking a commanding 27-5 lead after the first quarter. With her third assist against Texas A&M, Tonie Morgan broke the Kentucky single season assists record (218) that was set by Georgia Amoore (213) a year ago.

“It’s a surreal experience,” said Morgan after the game. “Obviously. thanking my teammates because they have to make shots for me to get that. But it just feels great to leave my mark here even though I’m only going to be here one year.”

Along with the record-breaking game, Morgan also pulled out 19 points and eight assists on Thursday. Asia Boone also put up an impressive 19 points alongside four three-pointers.

Clara Strack recorded another double-double, 17 points and 13 rebounds. Teonni Key tallied seven points and 11 rebounds.

The cats also dominated the boards 52-32.

Kentucky’s next test comes on Sunday when they host Ole Miss at 2 p.m. at Historical Memorial Coliseum.
