Tobacco ban going into effect early for Anderson County schools

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A new state law banning all tobacco products on school grounds takes effect next year, but Anderson County Schools plans to implement the ban early.

House Bill 11 bans the use of tobacco, alternative nicotine, and vapor products on school grounds by anyone at any time.

But the district announced on its Facebook that it was putting the ban into effect for the 2019-2020 school year.

The ban includes personal vehicles on school grounds, district-owned vehicles, outdoor athletic facilities and all athletic events. The ban will also remain in effect during evening or weekend activities and for rented district facilities like recreation league practices or games held on school grounds.
