Tip on cold case leads to search in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Investigators were in Mercer County on Friday, scouring a campground after they say they received a tip about a 42-year-old cold case.

Melanie Flynn disappeared in 1977. Many believe her disappearance had to with a multi-million dollar drug ring that reportedly included Lexington police officers and well-connected community members.

Kentucky State Police say they have been searching Murphy’s Landing campground, after receiving what they call a credible tip that Flynn’s body could be buried there.

Investigators plan to be back out to search the property next week.
