Tim Couch inducted into National High School Hall of Fame
LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – On Thursday evening, former Kentucky and Leslie County quarterback Tim Couch was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame. Couch was one of 12 inductees honored by the NFHS at a ceremony in Orlando.
While Solid Blue fans remember him most for his time in Lexington, Couch lit football fields across the bluegrass on fire while with Leslie County High School. After his senior season, Couch set national records for career passing yards (12,104), completions (872), and touchdowns (133). Even to this day, Couch’s name can be found all over the KHSAA record book as well. Couch is second in career touchdown passes, third in pass attempts, and third in pass completions. As a senior in 1995, Couch was named Kentucky’s Mr. Football.
While Couch would go to have an amazing career at Kentucky and be drafted #1 overall in the NFL Draft, his fondest memories were back in high school.
“You know high school was so special to me because you know you’re playing sports with guys you grew up with,” said Couch. “Guys you went to kindergarten with, high school with. Your next door neighbor. You know kids you knew your whole life. That’s what made it special to me.”
Couch played a huge role for the Cats on Saturdays and started for the Browns on Sunday, but there’s nothing like Friday nights.
“I was fortunate enough to play at every level in college and in the NFL, but when I look back at my career high school was probably my fondest memories just because of the relationships of getting to go through this process with my best friends that I’m still best friends with today.”
Couch was the owner of numerous records, but for him it was the fact his best friends were involved in breaking every single one.
“Getting a chance to break national passing records, do all these great things that I was able to accomplish with me best friends helping to get there where I wanted to be as an athlete.”
