Three suspects arrested after Lexington detective injured in ambush shooting

Police say detective suffered minor injuries, expected to make full recovery

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three people have been arrested for attempted murder of a police officer in connection to a shooting that left a Lexington police detective with minor injuries Wednesday night.

Lexington Police said detectives were following up on an investigation in the 900 block of Royal Avenue, at approximately 11:54 p.m., when someone opened fire on a detective who was inside a vehicle. Investigators said the detective suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, and was able to return fire.

Police said 27-year-old Daquis Sharp, 19-year-old Jatiece Parks and 19-year-old Zalan Dulin were detained on the scene. At this time, no other injuries are known. According to police, the detective had their issued body-worn camera (BWC) and all BWC footage related to the incident is being reviewed. The incident is also being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team. According to police, the detective will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation, per department policy.

The charges for the suspects are:

-Daquis Sharp, 27, charged with Murder (Attempt) – Police Officer, Assault 2nd Degree – Police Officer, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and 6 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.

-Jatiece Parks, 19, charged with Murder (Attempt) – Police Officer, Assault 2nd Degree – Police Officer, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and 6 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.

-Zalan Dulin, 19, charged with Murder (Attempt) – Police Officer, Assault 2nd Degree – Police Officer, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and 6 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. They are currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Sharp and Parks were also arrested and charged last year for a shooting that happened on July 4th on Stonehaven Drive.
