Three nominated for vacant Jefferson district judgeship

The three nominees for the judgeship are attorneys Josephine Layne Buckner, Sheldon Lee Haden and David Stuart Stevenson, all of Louisville.

Buckner is in private practice with a focus on personal injury cases and previously served as a public defender and a prosecutor. She received her juris doctor from the Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.

Haden serves as a staff attorney for the 14 judges of the Kentucky Court of Appeals and was previously in private practice. She received her juris doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.

Stevenson is in private practice and handles civil and criminal cases. He received his juris doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.

The judicial seat became vacant when Judge Eric J. Haner was appointed as a Jefferson Circuit Court judge effective July 11.

District Court judges handle juvenile matters, city and county ordinances, misdemeanors, violations, traffic offenses, probate of wills, arraignments, felony probable cause hearings, small claims involving $2,500 or less, civil cases involving $5,000 or less, voluntary and involuntary mental commitments and cases relating to domestic violence and abuse.
