Three more arrested in Richmond child abuse investigation linked to daycares

RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Three more people have been arrested in connection with a child abuse investigation involving two Richmond daycares.

According to police, Jessica Houk and Theodrick Hersey, identified as the owners of A Step Ahead and The Kids Club, have been charged along with Brooklyn Houk. Investigators say the three instructed staff members to lie about an incident where a child nearly wandered into traffic.

All three are now facing charges of child abuse, failure to report abuse, and obstructing an investigation.

Their arrests follow last week’s charges against another employee accused of food deprivation and physically abusing children under their care.

Police say at least five children have been identified as victims in the investigation, which is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released additional details on potential further arrests.

According to Fayette County Public Schools, Theodrick Hersey is an employee of the school district. FCPS sent us the following statement concerning his arrest: ’Fayette County Public Schools is aware of the situation involving Theo Hersey. Due to the ongoing investigation and the confidential nature of personnel matters, we are limited in what we can share at this time. However, we can confirm that the employee has been placed on administrative leave. As always, our students’ and staff’s safety and well-being remain our highest priority.’ Dia Davidson-Smith, FCPS District Spokesperson
